Tampa Bay was a Wild Card team coming into the 2019 post season. Not only did they defeat the Oakland A’s, but have shown multiple facets in the ALDS against the Astro’s. The Ray’s challenged the favorites in many ways like exquisite pitching and even better defensive plays.
In the bottom of the first, Tommy Pham hit a solo home run for the Rays. His homer was later followed by a double that would account for two RBI’s by third-basemen Joey Wendle. At that moment, Houston’s biggest asset was exposed. Verlander has been virtually impossible for hitters to succeed, but his weaknesses were on full display in game 4.
Next up for a homer was short-stop Willy Adames, who hit a solo shot in the fourth, giving the Rays a 4-0 lead. Houston was able to come up with a solo home-run in the 8th inning by Robinson Chirinos to put them on the board . At the top of the ninth, Astro’s fans chewed down their nails with two men on base and two outs. Tampa Bays closer, Blake Snell put a period on those hopes and forced game 5.
Whether the Rays or Astro’s come out winning the ALDS, we will find out this Thursday at 6PM. Either way, the New York Yankees will use their break after sweeping the Twins to rest and prep for game 1 of the American LEague Championship Series on Friday October 11,2019.
